Local Government Re-organisation

The Government has launched a consultation to invite residents, businesses, and key stakeholders, to have their say on what Local Government Reorganisation (LGR) should look like in Warwickshire.

If you would like to share your views on LGR in Warwickshire, the easiest way to take part is to provide your feedback through the online survey.

The consultation is open until Thursday 26 March.

The re-organisation will result in the abolishment of both district and county councils and replace them with either one or two unitary councils

There are two options for this new unitary organisation:

1. Two new councils, North Warwickshire and South Warwickshire Unitary Councils.

This option is the one favoured by both Stratford and Warwick Districts and also by Nuneaton & Bedworth and North Warwickshire Boroughs
It has the support of Manuela Perteghella (MP for Stratford-on-Avon)
Kate Dickson (Lib Dem Councillor for Kenilworth St. John's) says: "I support the idea of the North and South Unitary Councils. It recognises the strong different identities that exist in these 2 areas and enabling local Councillors to be in touch with, and represent their residents. Please complete the consultation to share your views."

OR

2. A single County-wide Warwickshire Unitary Council. Such a larger council will result in decisions being made further from where residents live.

2 unitaries
